A 5-Minute Grounding Practice for When Your Mind Feels Full

Some days the mind feels like a browser with every tab open. Grounding helps attention move from the head down into the body and the present moment.

Quick steps

  • Feel your footing. Place both feet on the floor and notice the pressure.
  • Long breaths. Inhale for four counts, exhale for six, repeat five times.
  • Name what you see. Slowly name five things you see, four you can touch, three you can hear.
  • Close with a pause. Rest a hand on your chest or belly and stay still for one full breath.

When to use it

Before a meeting, after a draining conversation, or at night when a busy mind keeps you awake.

Grounding is a gentle self-practice. If anxiety or exhaustion keeps going, seeking professional support is a good step.
